Quotes From Former Music Students

"Studying at Mayfield and being a part of the music program pursuing was a program I truly enjoyed. Being apart of Magnetics and being part of the CBC challenge was my favourite experience. I learned so much from choir like, blend, harmony, teamwork and it is so helpful for me in my degree (Bachelors of Music Ed) at Uoft. I even have the great opportunity to sing alongside Andrea Bocelli, as apart of the Uoft choir. Without Mayfield’s RAP program I would have not been able to accomplish what I have done."

"Mayfield’s repertoire courses have given me exposure to new people, new opportunities, and a brand new way of learning. Specifically, being in Magnetics was the most positively impactful part of my time in the RAP program at Mayfield. Learning to manage time between these courses and performances was a huge plus, and had prepared me for my future."
-Aparna Praveen (Alumni)

"Music was among the most important things in my life, and at that point in my life, Mayfield's repertoire courses were what allowed me to not only further my knowledge in music, but express my creativity and identity. It was what I enjoyed and looked forward to most about applying to the arts program. I am so beyond grateful to have been part of multiple repertoire courses as they provided countless many opportunities, meet and connect with individuals of similar interests, accomplish many of my musical goals, and allowed me to take part in what I truly loved. Experiences, such as the ones I have been part of, are beyond hard to come across, and being able to participate in them in high school was one of the most memorable times of my life as an aspiring musician."

"Vocal jazz was the only reason I came to school most days. It was by far the most applicable course to what I knew I wanted to do (sound engineering). Mixing for rehearsals and performances were the highlights of my high school career."
"Learning music at Mayfield has prepared me for future careers in terms of professionalism, preparedness and socialization i would not be doing half of the things I do now without it!"
-Rachel Hibbert (Alumni)

"Mayfield Music was one of the only outlets that boosted my self-esteem as a teenager. This program is not just about playing an instrument or singing on stage, but it taught me that performance is subjective to whomever chooses to perceive it—I just have to do what I feel and KNOW is right. I learned this through the discipline, dedication, and hard work that my teachers and peers faced every school day. It would be a disservice to students at Mayfield if this repertoire was taken from them, especially when it is the most developmentally appropriate."
“Mayfield’s repertoire courses changed me in ways I didn’t expect. They helped me find my voice when I wasn’t confident, taught me patience when I struggled, and showed me the importance of truly understanding others. Because of these experiences, I found a passion for helping people and chose to pursue social work. Repertoire isn’t just a course—it’s something that stays with you and shapes the person you become.”
“I continue to play music to this day because of the repertoire courses at Mayfield. I am in multiple bands including the reserve band for the military despite not getting a music degree in university. I would not have been able to achieve this without the education I received from the music courses in Mayfield.”
“Mayfield’s repertoire courses changed my life in the best ways. These repertoire classes were a breath of fresh air where I learned transferable skills that have benefited my career in and outside of Mayfield. Mayfield’s repertoire classes is where I met my closest friendships, whom I still treasure today, and together we made memories impossible without these courses. These courses shaped so much of who I am and I’m forever thankful for the experience.”

“There is no Mayfield without RAP! The repertoire courses were not only academically/musically fulfilling, but also emotionally rewarding.”
“It has allowed me to learn more outside of the academic curriculum. I was able to go outside of my comfort zone and meet new people. Its an opportunity I wasn't able to get anywhere else.”
"Mayfield's repertoire courses provided me with exposure to new music and styles, extra credits, and more opportunities for musical involvement at school. Participating in these ensembles gave me experiences that helped me get into university and get a job in music."
